Major Release [1.0.0] -๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰


Hello again! This is a major version bump, but not just for the new content โ€” rather, because the game finally feels stable and complete.

Thereโ€™s still room for improvement (there always is), but this version brings in a few nice additions and fixes that help tie everything together, including long-overdue things like a fair spawn system, more gameplay options, and properly saved settings.

Soโ€ฆ whatโ€™s next for this game?

Unless some bug creeps in, this is likely how the game will stay.
That said, Iโ€™m currently working on a small digital manual and a cover image to include with the embedded web version on itch.io. I will share the source files too so youโ€™ll also be able to download and print them if you want your own physical edition ๐Ÿ˜„

Even though Iโ€™ve been away from this project for a while due to my job and some side projects (and some lack of motivation NGL), Iโ€™m so happy with the little impact it had. What started as a small ASCII Tetris gimmick somehow ended up in a few collections, gathered hundreds of downloads, and even made it into a Japanese article at https://renpou.com/ and even in youtube https://youtu.be/Dbu8NScZiwk?si=tmAIIVbrghMQpzn5&t=4761 !

New Gameplay Features!

  • Spawn Algorithm Options:
    • RANDOM Mode: Pseudo random piece selection (Default)
    • FAIR Mode: Ensures balanced gameplay by prioritizing pieces you havenโ€™t gotten much - no more waiting forever for that I-piece!
  • Tetromino Selection Mode: Choose which specific tetromino pieces will spawn:
    • ALL: Standard gameplay with all pieces
    • I, O, L, J, S, Z, or T: Challenge modes with only one piece type
  • Grid Shifting Mode: Toggle a - mostly annoying - mechanic that shifts the entire playfield after each piece placement, creating an extra challenge but not rewarding the user in any way
  • Piece Counter: Shows a live counter on the left side of the screen that tracks how many of each piece type youโ€™ve received
    • Can be turned on/off in Game Settings

Fixed

  • Tetromino Spawn: First piece after game over now properly spawns as a new one (previously it was the last hinted before Game Over)

Changed

  • UI Improvements: Better menu organization and navigation
    • Game settings are now in their own submenu
    • Standarized B key as a quick exit button for all the menus.
  • Credits Screen: Small changes, nothing important ๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜ด
  • Game Save: Was only saving Score and Option, now it also saves Game Settings
